The DDS (Dynamic Displacement Sensor) sensor measures uniaxial dynamic displacements using a high-sensitivity MEMS accelerometer with double integration processing. It captures vibration-induced displacement in a single axis, with two selectable full-scale ranges: ±1.5 mm and ±3.0 mm. The sensor also records temperature for environmental compensation. It is specifically designed for structural health monitoring applications where detecting small, dynamic movements is critical.

The sensor operates on a threshold-based trigger system. When the detected displacement exceeds a user-configurable threshold, the device records a complete event consisting of 1600 samples at 50 Hz, corresponding to a 32-second window. Each recorded event includes the full displacement waveform, peak displacement value, dominant frequency, and temperature at the time of acquisition. Events are stored locally and transmitted wirelessly via LoRaWAN.

The sensor supports two selectable ranges: ±1.5 mm and ±3.0 mm. In the ±1.5 mm range, the resolution is 0.012 mm, providing higher precision for detecting very small displacements. In the ±3.0 mm range, the resolution is 0.024 mm, allowing the sensor to capture larger movements. The range is configured during installation and determines both the sensitivity and the maximum measurable displacement.

Mounting orientation must match the sensor version: the DECK002-X is designed for vertical displacement measurement and must be installed with the sensitive axis aligned to the direction of expected movement. The sensor should be rigidly fixed to the structure using the provided mounting plate and screws, ensuring no play or vibration damping between the sensor and the monitored surface. Incorrect orientation will result in inaccurate or missed displacement readings.

With a typical configuration of 5 events per hour, battery life is estimated at around 2 years using 2x 3.6V LiSOCl₂ batteries (JST PHR-4 connector). Actual lifespan depends on the number of triggered events, transmission frequency, and environmental temperature. Extreme cold reduces battery capacity, while higher event rates increase power consumption. The battery level is monitored and reported via the MyMove platform.
